Planted in 2008 to a careful selection of 8 clones and 2 rootstocks chosen to offer a distinct level of flavor and complexity and intrigue.  Stepp slopes of well drained, fine samdy loam are often shrouded in a maritime blanket of fog that begins to burn off just about noon, which allows for extended hang time and builds in extra complexity to the wines.

Gap’s Crown Vineyard is situated directly east of and overlooks the Sangiacomo Vineyard on Roberts Road near Cotati at an elevation of 300-800 feet above sea level. This is an extremely rocky, well-draining site with northwestern exposure, which consistently produces powerful, concentrated Pinot noir and Chardonnay in a New World-style. Its proximity to the Petaluma Gap, from which its name is derived, effectively moderates temperature during warm spells in the summer and fall and enables the crop to hang into late September and October in most vintages.

Located in what is deemed “the gateway to the Sonoma Coast,” the Sangiacomo
Lakeville Vineyards were planted by the Sangiacomo family in 1990 during the rebirth of
the Petaluma Gap region. Wind and fog cover the vineyards in the early morning and late
afternoon hours, which allows for extra hangtime and helps build complexity of flavor in
the grapes. This environment combined with the Sangiacomo family’s passion and
appreciation for the land, help to produce some of the most premium Pinot Noir grapes
of the region.

Most everyone knows that Jim Pratt is a grower we truly admire, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that when the opportunity for a little Chardonnay from Vine Hill presented itself, it was a run, don’t walk situation. On the edge of Green Valley near Forestville in the Laguna Hills region, legendary vintner neighbors all around this vineyard are just one clue that something very special is happening here.

Jim Pratt began developing this vineyard in the late 1990's, on a site south of Graton and west of Sebastopol on the far western portion of the Sonoma Coast in an area known as the Sebastopol Hills.  The slightly sloping hillside receives the classic morning fog and warm afternoons common to the coastal region, producing fruit with great acidity.

The beautiful Toulouse Vineyard is located in the heart of Anderson Valley along Highway 128 in Philo, just 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean and two hours north of the Golden Gate Bridge.  The climate and weather patterns in this region are ideal for Pinot Noir.  While Summer temperatures can reach the high 90's, the afternoon breeze and fog refresh the fruit with nightly lows in the 50's, creating the perfect sugar/acid balance in the grapes.  This vineyard is an important touchstone for MacPhail Wines, as it's one of the first vineyards we sourced from, beginning with the 2002 vintage.
