Each of these wines is an expression of the vineyard from whence it came, crafted by nature, and nurtured by our hands through minimal intervention in in our cellar.

SUMMER SHIPPING: We now ship via Fed Ex by default and utilize their Cold Chain, temperature controlled, shipping solution for shipping in the summer months. Please note, wine can be damaged by heat, and we avoid shipping ground in the summer months when temperatures are above 80°F. Cold Chain covers most of the U.S. and we recommend trying it. In its sixth year (and third vintage) we find the vineyard offering fruit from all eight blocks planted, with a resulting step up stylistically, offering a richer, more complex wine worthy of contemplation. The character of Mardikian is still being revealed as the insights we gain from spending more time farming this treasured vineyard leads to all that Jim Pratt, Sander Scheer and I hoped when we first dusted our boots with these soils.

The Flyer is a bottling we have reserved for special vineyards: Maybe a vineyard we won't always have access to or maybe one where the vineyard owner asked us to make their wine, because that’s what happens here in our small community of fellow winemakers. This 2013 bottling fits the bill, from the Susanna's Vineyard in Russian River Valley. This Pinot Noir vineyard was first planted in 2006 and we were the first winery to explore the promise of the vineyard.  We sure like it so far, and we bet you will too.

In the mid 1990s Nancy Winn and Chuck Kensler retired and moved from Palo Alto to bucolic western Sonoma County, among old Apple orchards and Chestnut groves, just 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean. They met Jim Pratt and took a community college winegrowing class from him, deciding to grow grapes on the sloping hill of their Green Valley home, named after the sun refractions that cause a beautiful light display (although we’ve also heard that Sundawg was Chuck’s nickname in his surfing days). Planted exclusively to Pinot Noir in 2000, the vineyard sits above the morning fog line and is just reaching its prime, producing distinctive fruit that lingers on the vine and develops great depth of flavor.

The Dutton family is one of the founding farming families of Sonoma County, dating back to the 1880s, when Warren Dutton first farmed prunes, later farming apples and other fruits before planting wine grapes in the mid 1960’s. The MacPhail Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir is sourced from two of the family’s younger sustainably farmed vineyards.

Jim Pratt began developing this vineyard in the late 1990s, on a site south of Graton and West of Sebastopol on the far western portions of the Sonoma Coast in an area known as Laguna Hills and more recently, the Sebastopol Hills. Ridges are mostly northeast to southwest oriented, falling within the main watershed for Atascadero Creek, which flows north into Green Valley creek and on into the Russian River. The slightly sloping hillside receives the classic morning fog and warm afternoons common to the coastal region, producing fruit with great acidity.
