2013 Toulouse Vineyard Pinot Noir

Anderson Valley

Warm is the first word we think of with Toulouse, and for lots of reasons. In this vintage, warm earth shouts from my glass. And, of course, we have nothing but warm feelings for our long time grower Vern Boltz. Warm brings to mind approachable, and this vintage surely is.

Aromas of oak spice and sandalwood, rose petals and even a touch of coffee on the nose. Intriguing in its complexity, with the expected Anderson Valley acid backbone balanced by soft but discernible tannins. Medium weight, with flavors of cherry and strawberry tinged with Christmas spice. Toulouse has been a standard bearer in the Deep End, beautiful on release and gaining in stature with just a touch of aging, this one will linger, offering long lasting memories.

21 barrels handcrafted

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
~ 94 Points "Hedonistic Pleasure" / “Bright, a bit sassy and quite feminine, this wine offers notes of strawberry, baking spices, zesty orange peel and a hint of leather. The nose is intoxicating, including some minerality. The layers of aromas transform into layers of flavors in the mouth — a savory surprise in every sip." — Bob Johnson & Glen Frederiksen, WineLines Online
Awards
~ 92 Points "Highly Recommended" / “A full-bodied, complex and supple textured wine, this offers plump, ripe black-cherry aromas shaded by hints of forest floor and sautéed mushrooms, along with mild plum and cherry flavors. While soft and soothing on the palate, a fine layer of tannins wraps it up and keeps it appetizing.” - Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast
Vineyard Notes
~ 91Pts. "Outstanding" / “Smooth and lush, rich and savory; ripe and balanced with density and style; generous and long.” — Anthony Dias Blue, The Tasting Panel Magazine
Production Notes
~ 90 Pts. "Outstanding" / “Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Shy, but pleasing aromas of black cherry, plum and rose petals. Bright acidity drives the palate that is replete with flavors of dark red cherry and berries and a deft note of oak. Supple tannins make for easy drinking, and the finish is particularly pleasing with a burst of Bing cherry and a tight grip. Even better the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle.” — Rusty Gaffney, Pinot File ~ 90 Pts. "Outstanding" / “The 2013 Pinot Noir Toulouse Vineyard is quite a bit fresher and more nuanced than the 2012 tasted alongside. Bright red cherry, blood orange, game, pomegranate, mint and cinnamon are pushed forward in a pliant, attractive Pinot that should drink nicely for a number of years.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Winemaker Notes
~ 93 Pts. "Outstanding" / "Juicy, expressive, and slightly chewy with notes of cranberry, cherry, red licorice, fennel seed, white mushroom, and vanilla bean." - Catherine Fallis, MS, Planet Grape Wine Reviews
Food Pairing Notes
~ Gold Star / "Abundant aromas of spice, rose petal, red and black fruit, espresso, and sandalwood. Elegant palate of black cherry, black and red summer berries, cinnamon, clove, toasted vanilla, and pepper oak. Soft tannins on the balanced finish. Very well made." - Santé Magazine
Other Notes
TASTING NOTES: “Aromas of oak spice and sandalwood, rose petals and even a touch of coffee on the nose. Intriguing in its complexity, with the expected Anderson Valley acid backbone balanced by soft but discernible tannins. Medium weight, with flavors of cherry and strawberry tinged with Christmas spice. Toulouse has been a standard bearer in the Deep End, beautiful on release and gaining in stature with just a touch of aging, this one will linger, offering long lasting memories.”
